Kickboxing was originally a Thai martial art commonly known as Muay Thai. It has been practiced in Thailand for many, many generations and they are known as the masters of the art.
Kickboxing moved to America and the West probably with the popularization of martial arts - with Bruce Lee, the Karate Kid, American Ninja and other martial art cult movies.  Kickboxing then exploded and changed and there are now hundreds of different off-shoot styles - some focusing on fighting, others focusing on exercise and cardio. Billy Blanks, for example, invented Tae Bo where you use the principles of Muay Thai and boxing to get an awesome weight loss workout.
The main benefits of kickboxing are:

    •    increased confidence through knowing self defense and working with people;

Its rigorous workout — controlled punching and kicking movements carried out with the discipline and skills required for martial arts — can do wonders for feelings of frustration and anger. Practicing kickboxing moves can also help to improve flexibility, coordination, and endurance. 
Kickboxing Classes at the West Windsor TaeKwonDo & Kickboxing Academy are offered evenings and Saturday mornings for teens (16+) and adults.  Master Steven’s approach to kickboxing training is Cardio rather than Aerobic.  As a professional kickboxer himself, Master Steven is always training – he brings his 30 years of martial arts experience as well as tips and routines that he learns from his trainers, to the classes, keeping the workouts varied and interesting.  
The 90-minute workout consists of easy-to-learn moves and provides fast results in terms of improved balance, coordination and an increase in energy.  Every lesson will be a mixture of kickboxing, circuit training, calisthenics and stretching.  Kickboxing is a great way to get a total body workout while learning simple self-defense moves.
    •    Kicking is great for the abs, buns, and thighs. 
    •    Punching is great for the back, arms and shoulders.
    •    Kickboxing is the perfect full-body workout and its fun!
